2008 Chinese New Year Dinner, Overseas Chinese Association.
A warm thank you to those who joined us on 12th February 2008 and all the supporters of this auspicious night. The Annual Chinese New Year dinner is the main fundraiser for the Overseas Chinese Association in Bristol. Money raised goes towards funding the Chinese School, Chinese Elderly People’s Club and Chinese Womens group. It is a chance for old and new friends to celebrate together and bring in the New Year.
During the course of the evening, the Lord Mayor and new and old chairmen of the Overseas Chinese Association, Mr. Wong and Mr. Lee, gave inspirational speeches that were translated into both English and Chinese so that all could appreciate them.
The nights entertainment was festive and loud, and kicked off with a special dance performance given by the local Chinese school children. This was followed by the traditional unicorn dance performed by the Pak Mei kung fu group and lion dance by the Tung Wah Tong lion dance troupe from London. A troupe of acrobat performers wowed the crowd with their Kung fu demonstrations, gymnastics stunts and balancing acts.
The banquet, catered by Water Sky Bristol, was a selection of delicious Chinese delicacies roast duck, pork with black fungus, steamed whole fish and Chinese vegetables followed by traditional mandarin oranges and Chinese doughnuts.
