Chinese New Year 2014, Bristol

Chinese New Year of the HorseCelebrate the arrival of the impulsive and fast-moving Year of the Horse with us! Everyone is welcome to our Chinese New Year celebrations at 11.15am on Saturday, 1st February, when there will be traditional firecrackers and lion dance performances as well as various food and activity stalls. The event is free and everyone is welcome to come down and join us for the festivities.

The firecrackers will be lit at 11.15am to scare away the evil spirits for the new year. This will be followed by the kung fu skills of the Yi Quin lion dance troupe, who will perform a traditional Chinese Lion dance, and perhaps even demonstrate some of their kung fu skills!

Also joining us on the day, will be Fresh Asia Dumplings, who will be offering free dumpling tastings; our local Chinese Baker, who will be selling traditional Chinese treats; our friends at Bubbly Tea, serving up everyone’s favourite drink you can chew; and Avon Somerset mounted unit will also be joining us to see in the Year of the Horse!

2014 is the Year of the Horse, which is the Seventh sign in the Chinese zodiac. Horses are the free-spirits of the zodiac and are known for their impulsiveness and carefree nature. Don’t pen them in with too many rules, or they may rebel! If you are aged 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 or 96 this year, you are more likely than not to be a Chinese Horse.
